The 1979 Continental is the last year of the big Lincolns. It spanned 233 inches(19.4 feet) long and 79.9 inches(6.65 feet) wide. The biggest of any production Lincoln in history. If you are gonna buy a lincoln may as well buy the biggest one ever made. I have the appointment line up to go check it out around 11am tomorrow. Hopefully I will bring this beast home.

A lot of people forget just how tidily proportioned the supposedly massive 1950s landyachts really were.

It took until the 1970s for cars to really balloon up, ironically at a time when the engines could least cope with the mass and when people were starting to fear for the future fuel supply. Chrysler, AMC, GM, and Ford all did their biggest big cars in that decade. And because Henry Ford II harbored a deep resentment of small cars, Ford were the last ones to jump onto the downsizing trend.

Well, AMC didn't downsize either, they took the even lazier route and just discontinued everything bigger than a compact.

I don't know about that. The '79 continental made just 159hp from it's choked 400CI small block due to the necessary emissions standards. Yes it will move the beast but you best not be in a hurry. Think of it like trying to launch the Titanic you can mash the throttle but it takes a will for the spinning props to get the ship going.

To be fair to AMC, by the 70s anything bigger than the Hornet really didn't sell well for them.

They did pretty good just refreshing the Hornet from 1970 to 1988 though.

Good luck on that Lincoln. For the dough they're asking you really can't lose.

I'm sure that will help the already pitiful 12 mpg going down hill.

Pfft Who needs MPGs when you can have a 1600HP V16 Continental cruise missle? Just do the swap and don't worry, gas is cheap right now.

No, my ownership of stock in every major oil company on earth has nothing to do with this piece of advice. God, why does everyone keep bringing that up?

The ongoing saga of Luc Allain's lust for the ownership of this vehicle along with updates of fun Lincoln facts are so enjoyable!

I actually know of a place called "The Shack" in Jugville, Michigan. It's a little resort bed and breakfast deal in the western part of the state. On the grounds is a museum that has a collection of 1979 2 door continentals, One for every avalible color that year, all with less than 5 miles on the odometer. I wish I had pictures. The owner bought them because he knew it was going to be the last year for the large land yachts

THat's pretty freaking awesome but I'm not sure if that was a wise investment or not. I don't even know if a mint "no miles" continental is worth the $16,500 it was when it was brand new. Regardless the guy has balls. That would be a pretty awesome thing to see.

Nope! the only picture on the ad is the one posted above.

and this is what it said on the whole ad:

1979 Lincoln clean rust free $1500

Normally I would just skip over an ad with such a vague description but this car drew me in like nothing before so I had to call and find out more.

But he did buy all of them Brand New!! Ordered them from the dealer and had them dropped off on the car transporter. THe only miles on them are from driving off the truck and into the museum
